A poem by Teresinka Pereira

SONG TO DISMISS THE FALL

Here the yellow leaves
darken
left, forgotten,
in the back yard.
Trees are bare,
and squirrels,
turtles,
bunnies,
deer,
raccoons
that visit my garden
are disquieted
by the premonition
that snow will come
before Christmas.

I retire to a little corner
of my room
like a dove that has
forgotten how to fly
before the storm.
Tomorrow
all dreams will return.
